Who doesn't dream of financial freedom, a home of their own or a good retirement provision? Achieving these goals requires not only discipline and perseverance, but also a little courage to invest money on the capital market. Many older generations have already experienced a few stock market crashes and are afraid of them. However, this fear is unfounded; so far, every crash has been followed by a recovery. And if the world comes to an end, it doesn't matter anyway whether you go down with a lot of cash or shares. Unfortunately, fear of the risks on the capital market prevails instead of taking advantage of the opportunities. Yet there are good arguments for overcoming the fear of the capital market.

The stock exchange is a marketplace through which you can buy and sell securities. However, one does not contact it directly, but goes through a bank. You have to imagine it as follows: When you buy a share, you enter an order via the bank, the bank gives you the share, which you bought in advance via the stock exchange. For this, you also need a seller, which the stock exchange provides. The stock exchange is basically the interface between buyer and seller.

When you start investing, you will very quickly realise that there are a large number of products, ranging from simple to complex. You may have heard of some of the products. It is essential for investors to understand the different financial products and know their advantages and disadvantages. This is because many financial products are hardly suitable for private investors. We can reveal in advance that in our e-learning we will mainly deal with shares, bonds, cash and ETFs in more detail. You will find out why in a moment.

You have learned about the basic financial products. However, there are countless other more complicated ways to invest your money on the stock market. However, these have many more risks and are not suitable for private investors in our view. If you still want to learn about these complicated financial products, you are welcome to watch this lesson, otherwise it doesn't matter if you skip this lesson and concentrate on the essentials.

So far you have learned about the different financial products. But there is one question we have left open so far: "How high is the performance of the different investments?" This question is very central, because as an investor you need to know how high returns are possible with the individual investments and what their limits are. Whether you invest in gold or shares makes a very big difference.

The most important of all questions in investing is certainly the following. If you make the wrong decisions on this question, you can lose a lot of money because, for example, you have to sell at the stupidest time. Before deciding what and how much to invest, three questions must be answered in advance:

The right broker can be decisive for performance. This is because there are many brokers who either have fees that are far too high, are not transparent enough or appear dubious. In Chapter Nine: Basic Stock Market Terms we briefly explained what a broker is. Now we would like to go into more detail about what to look for when choosing a broker and which brokers we can recommend. We would like to point out once again that our broker selection is completely neutral and we are not paid by any bank.

Investors are exposed to various psychological and emotional effects when investing. Every purchase and sale is influenced by your emotions. Many investors do not have these emotions under control and therefore incur losses. In this lesson you will learn about the psychology of the financial markets and what effects this triggers.

In order to be able to evaluate a company, you have to be able to read and understand my balance sheet and income statement. At first glance, these calculations look like a jumble of numbers, but it is not as difficult as it looks. Later we will need these two calculations to calculate ratios and values that are needed for share analysis. In this chapter we will briefly introduce each term and also mention the English term, because many financial portals are "only" available in English. You don't have to know all the terms by heart and flawlessly, but should simply give you an overview of the balance sheet and income statement. The aim is not to be an auditor afterwards.

If you want to evaluate a company, you can't get around the key figures. With the help of ratios such as the price-earnings ratio (P/E ratio), you can evaluate a company and decide whether to buy shares or not. There are many different ratios. We cannot go into all the ratios, but concentrate on the most important ones. Not all ratios have to be taken into account in order to evaluate a company. Later, we will need these ratios to carry out a "peer group valuation" or to value a company. We will explain the valuation method later.

Before you can analyse a company, you have to find a suitable company for the analysis. This can sometimes be more challenging than expected, as there are over 43,000 listed companies worldwide. This chapter is not only about finding the right company, but also about how to use everyday life for our stock buying. This lesson is partly based on Peter Lynch's book "Stocks for All".

In the last 19 lessons you have acquired extensive knowledge about the stock market and investing in general. Now it's time to get to know the "supreme discipline" of investing, company valuation. In this lesson you will learn how to evaluate a company/share and how to create a so-called research report.
